Parents ethic in sports

I just received that from Sports Quebec which is a governmental body here in Quebec and I thought I should share it with you because this is applicable everywhere in the world. It is a new ethical code for parents that is sent to all youth sports organizations. Here goes:

Recognizing that:

- sport has a formidable contribution potential to health, balance and development of the person

- the wellbeing and the blooming of my child constitute a priority located well beyond the performance and the sporting victory

As a parent of a young sportsman, my matter and my behavior show that:

1) I understand that my child practices a sport for his own pleasure and not mine

2) I regard victory as one of the pleasures of sport, I undramatize defeat and recognize errors as belonging to the training

3) I respect trainers and coaches and their work

4) I understand the difficult task of officials and respect their decisions

5) I recognize the good performances of my child like those of the other candidates

6) I accept my child's limits and I do not project disproportionate ambition on him

7) I endeavor to know the rules of the sport to prevent that ignorance skew my judgment towards the decisions of the trainers and the officials

8) I do not see sporting children like miniature sporting adults

9) I inculcate to my child values of respect, discipline, effort and honesty

10) I encourage my child to develop his skills and his sporting spirit
